Re-invention at 39

I sit here at a crossroads staring blankly at the screen but am thrilled by the backdrop which is festooned with palm trees, saw palmettos, and the creative calls of the mockingbird. This moment I had been longing for has finally appeared. So far, I’ve had an extra dose of sun vitamins, sleep, and have met some interesting neighbors. Does Florida behold all that I was searching for? I’m not sure yet, but I do sense BIG THINGS MANIFESTING on the Horizon.

Funny thing, I just left my science teaching position at Horizon Science Academy on the south side of Chicago. The following list does not exist to bore you but to merely catch you up to date! It was 10+ years of Science, Environmental Education, West African Dance and Drum Performances, Behavior Management, Volunteering with Baboons in Africa, Dancing in Senegal, Girls Varsity Soccer Coaching, Marriage, Eco-Club, Ornithology, my Mother’s Passing, Grieving, and the Body Keeping Score! The items included in that list were once on the Horizon and I am forever grateful for their existence. However, I wonder what’s in store next.

I now find my exhausted body in silence at 39. My body has finally spoken. When we don’t use the power of the word “NO” the body will do it for you. The chapter of last year ended long before it was over. The ambulance sirens and police cars are a distant memory. The snoring of the neighbors above us has vanished. In this present moment, I find peace and hope for the future.

Mel Robbins, one of my favorite motivational speakers, discusses the importance of following your dreams. No more quick fixes! The mere fact of just hearing someone else state these words has instilled an unwavering sense of proceeding forward despite the discomfort of the new! Thank you to Jay Shetty, Tony Robbins, Les Brown, and Jane Goodall who have also played a big part in my leap into the unknown. Please check these motivational speakers out!

In conclusion, I meet you presently in the here and now embracing a deep breath in and exhaling that which no longer serves me. I’m inviting you along on this simple, miraculous, synchronous, and mysterious “journey of reinvention.”

Help Save the Baboons! You can volunteer in Phalaborwa, South Africa at “Riverside Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre South Africa.” Many of the adults are killed by farmers because they eat their crops. Sadly, the babies are left without parents. However, you can make a difference! https://www.riversidewrc.com/
